OFFSEASON & FREE AGENCY GUIDE
Overview
The WTF offseason is a structured, three-phase process designed to handle roster transitions, salary cap management, and player acquisitions following the draft. Understanding these phases is critical to maintaining a competitive roster.
Phase 1: Cuts & Cap Compliance
Phase 1 is the "Roster Cleaning" period. Owners must evaluate their squad and ensure they meet the league's financial requirements before Free Agency begins.
- Expiring Contracts: Any player with only 1 year remaining on their contract is considered "expiring."
- Re-signing Deadline: You have until the end of Phase 1 to re-sign (extend) these players. This deadline typically falls at 7:00 PM EST on a scheduled day after the draft. If a player is not re-signed by this deadline, they will automatically be moved to Free Agency at the start of Phase 2.
- Financial Treatment: During Phase 1, the salaries of expiring players are excluded from your team total. This allows you to see your accurate cap space for the upcoming season. However, once you re-sign a player, their new salary immediately counts against your cap.
- Transition Requirement: The league cannot advance to Phase 2 until every team is under the salary cap.
Phase 2: Primary Free Agency
Phase 2 is the main bidding window where the bulk of the league's talent movement occurs.
- Bidding Process: Owners place bids consisting of an Annual Salary Offer (determined by the requested 1-5 year term) and a Signing Bonus.
- Minimum Raise: To outbid another owner, you must increase the Signing Bonus by a proportional amount based on the current high bid:
- Current Bid < $1M: $250,000 raise
- Current Bid $1M - $5M: $500,000 raise
- Current Bid $5M - $10M: $1,000,000 raise
- Current Bid $10M+: $2,000,000 raise
- Award timing: Phase 2 claims are typically awarded 20 hours after submission, unless the Phase 2 deadline is less than 20 hours away at the time of the claim (in that case, the claim is awarded at the deadline). This means claims placed within the final 20-hour window all clear together when the deadline hits. The exact date and time for the current season is always displayed on the Offseason Timer on the main dashboard.
- Cap Compliance: You must remain cap-compliant throughout this phase, including all your currently "winning" bids.
Phase 3: Supplemental Free Agency
Phase 3 is the "Fast Finish" period, used to fill remaining roster holes.
- Rolling Clock: Unlike Phase 2, bids in Phase 3 use a rolling clock (standard: 1 hour). If you are the high bidder for the duration of the clock without being outbid, the player is awarded to your team immediately.
- Final Roster Lock: Once Phase 3 ends (typically 24 hours after it begins), rosters are finalized for the upcoming season.
Roster & Practice Squad Rules
- Active Roster: A maximum of 30 players can be on the active roster.
- Practice Squad: A maximum of 5 players can be on the practice squad.
- Total Limit: No team may exceed 35 total players. If winning a bid puts you over this limit, you must cut a player to remain compliant before the season begins.
* Note: All deadlines are tracked via the automated Offseason Timer on the main dashboard.
